About BUET — Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology Khuzdar
Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology Khuzdar (BUET) is a public sector engineering university established in 2010 by the Government of Balochistan. Located in Khuzdar, one of the major districts of Balochistan, BUET was created to expand quality engineering education beyond Quetta and provide engineering degree access to students from the southern and central districts of Balochistan. The university is fully recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
BUET Khuzdar offers four-year BS engineering programmes in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. These programmes are accredited by PEC, enabling BUET graduates to register as engineers with the Pakistan Engineering Council and practise engineering professionally in Pakistan. The university provides a technical education that serves the infrastructure and development needs of Balochistan province, Pakistan's largest but least industrialised province.
All BUET programmes follow the HEC 4.0 grading scale with assessment based on sessional marks, midterm exams, final exams, and laboratory work. As a government institution, BUET charges heavily subsidised fees and provides hostel facilities for outstation students from districts across Balochistan.

BUET Minimum CGPA Requirements & Probation
Undergraduate Requirements
BUET Khuzdar engineering students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.0 throughout their programme. PEC also mandates that engineering graduates have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 to qualify for PEC registration as an engineer. Students falling below this threshold are placed on probation.
Academic Probation
Students with CGPA below 2.0 are placed on academic probation for one semester and must improve to the minimum within that period. Students on probation may also be required to register for fewer credit hours to focus on improving weak courses. Persistent failure to meet the minimum CGPA may result in academic dismissal per BUET regulations.
BUET Honours Roll & Academic Distinctions
BUET Khuzdar maintains an Honours Roll for engineering students achieving a semester GPA of 3.5 or above with no failing grades and a full credit load. Graduating students with a final CGPA of 3.5 or above receive their degree With Distinction, noted on the degree certificate. Programme toppers may receive gold medals at convocation ceremonies.
BUET Campus & Engineering Programmes
Khuzdar Campus
BUET's main campus is in Khuzdar, a major district of south-central Balochistan approximately 225 km from Quetta. The campus includes engineering laboratories (civil, electrical, computer, mechanical), a computing centre, a technical library, hostels for male and female students, and a sports ground. Khuzdar is known for its mineral-rich surroundings, and BUET Civil and Mechanical engineering programmes benefit from proximity to active construction and natural resource extraction activities in the region.
Programmes Offered
BUET offers four PEC-accredited BS engineering programmes: BS Civil Engineering (134 credit hours, 4 years), BS Electrical Engineering (134 credit hours), BS Computer Systems Engineering (134 credit hours), and BS Mechanical Engineering (134 credit hours). All programmes are aligned with PEC curriculum guidelines and include extensive lab work, project-based learning, and a Final Year Project (FYP) in the senior year.
Absolute vs Relative Grading at BUET
BUET uses absolute grading with fixed percentage cutoffs. Engineering course grades are not curved relative to class performance. Each student's final percentage — combining sessional, midterm, final exam, and lab marks — is mapped to the grade scale independently. This ensures consistent grading standards across all batches and prevents grade inflation or deflation based on cohort size.
