GIKI Merit & Aggregate Calculator

Use this free GIKI (Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Topi) merit and aggregate calculator to calculate your admission merit. Enter your SSC/O-Level percentage and your Admission Test (or SAT-II) score, then see the score you need for your target merit.

Quick answer

GIKI’s own Undergraduate Admissions Policy sets a single Comparative Assessment Criteria for every programme: 85% Admission Test (or SAT-II) + 15% SSC/O-Level (or your last completed qualification, for High School Diploma, IB Diploma, BSc or DAE applicants). Intermediate/HSSC marks are not part of the merit formula at all — they only have to clear a 60% eligibility minimum, confirmed directly from GIKI’s own policy document and live eligibility page.

Intermediate/FSc marks are not part of GIKI’s merit formula — only your SSC/O-Level (or last completed qualification) and your Admission Test/SAT-II score count. The 200-mark test total is widely reported by test-prep platforms, not published as an exact figure by GIKI itself; if you sat SAT-II instead, change the total to match its scale.

What Admission Test / SAT-II score do you need?

Set your target merit and we work backwards from your Matric and FSc marks to the Admission Test / SAT-II score you need. The grid shows your merit at every score from 50% to 100% of the paper.

GIKI Merit Formula 2027: 85% Admission Test + 15% SSC/O-Level

GIKI’s own Undergraduate Admissions Policy publishes a single Comparative Assessment Criteria table (Table 3.1), applied the same way across Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Management Sciences alike:

ComponentWeightage
Admission Test or SAT-II85%
SSC / O-Level (or last completed qualification)15%

There is no third line item for Intermediate/HSSC marks. This is unusual among Pakistani universities, most of which split merit across Matric, Intermediate and a test. At GIKI, your Intermediate/FSc result only has to clear a 60% eligibility minimum (see below) — it does not add or subtract any points from your merit score once you are eligible.

The 15% component is based on whichever qualification you most recently completed before applying: SSC/O-Level for standard FSc or A-Level applicants, or the qualification itself (percentage as per IBCC equivalence, where applicable) for American/Canadian High School Diploma, IB Diploma, BSc (Maths & Physics) or DAE applicants.

SAT-II (Physics and Mathematics Level IIC) is accepted in place of GIKI’s own Admission Test, but only for overseas applicants. You must choose one basis — GIKI’s test or SAT-II — and cannot switch between them; applying on both bases is grounds for disqualification.

How to Calculate Your GIKI Merit: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Convert your SSC/O-Level result to a percentage. Divide obtained marks by total marks and multiply by 100.
  2. Convert your Admission Test (or SAT-II) score to a percentage. Divide your score by the test total and multiply by 100.
  3. Multiply by GIKI’s weightage. SSC/O-Level percentage × 15%, Admission Test/SAT-II percentage × 85%.
  4. Add the two results. The total is your GIKI merit out of 100.

Worked example

A student scores 950/1100 in SSC and 160/200 in the GIKI Admission Test.

ComponentMarksPercentageWeightagePoints
Admission Test160 / 20080.00%85%68.00
SSC950 / 110086.36%15%12.95
Total merit——100%80.95%

Try these same numbers in the calculator above and you will get 80.95%.

GIKI Admission Test: Subjects, Format and SAT-II

GIKI conducts its own Admission Test rather than accepting NTS NAT, ECAT or any other national test (except SAT-II for overseas applicants). GIKI’s own subject syllabus documents confirm the subjects tested differ by programme group:

RouteSubjects tested
Engineering & Computing (AI, Computer Engineering, CS, Data Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security)Mathematics, Physics, English
BS Management SciencesMathematics (basic/applied), English — no Physics

GIKI’s syllabus documents confirm these subject areas but do not publish the exact number of questions or marks per section. Multiple test-prep platforms report the Engineering/Computing test as 80 MCQs across 2 hours, worth 200 marks total: Mathematics 30 questions (3 marks each, −1 for a wrong answer), Physics 30 questions (3 marks each, −1 for a wrong answer), and English 20 questions (1 mark each, no negative marking). Treat this specific breakdown as widely reported rather than officially confirmed.

The test is held simultaneously at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta and select overseas centres. Overseas applicants may substitute SAT-II (Physics and Mathematics Level IIC) for GIKI’s own test, but must choose one basis and cannot switch.

GIKI Eligibility Criteria: Minimum Marks by Route

Meeting eligibility is separate from, and a precondition for, the merit calculation above — your Intermediate/HSSC result must clear these minimums even though it carries no weight in the merit formula itself. For Engineering & Computer Science, any one of six routes qualifies, each requiring 60% or above in Mathematics, Physics and Overall (or the IBCC-equivalent for foreign qualifications):

Qualification routeRequirement
HSSC (Pre-Engineering: Maths, Physics, Chemistry)60%+ in Maths, Physics & Overall
HSSC (Pre-Medical) + Additional Mathematics60%+ in Maths, Physics & Overall
HSSC/A-Level with Maths, Physics & Computer Studies/Science/IT (no Chemistry)60%+ in Maths, Physics & Overall — Computer Engineering/Computer Science only
A-Levels: Maths, Physics, Chemistry (D or above) + 8 O-Levels (local) or 5 (overseas)60%+ overall per IBCC equivalence
US/Canada High School Diploma or IB Diploma with Maths (Calculus), Physics, Chemistry60%+ per IBCC equivalence
BSc (Mathematics & Physics)60%+ in Maths, Physics & Overall
3-year DAE in a relevant technology60%+ in Maths, Physics & Overall

Applicants with a Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry background can apply to every Engineering/Computing programme, including Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Applicants with Computer Studies/Science instead of Chemistry can only apply to Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

For BS Management Sciences, eligibility is broader: any HSSC stream (Pre-Engineering, General Science, ICS, Pre-Medical or Humanities) with 60%+ overall, or A-Level (3 subjects, two D grades or above) with the same O-Level requirements as above, or a US/Canada High School Diploma/IB Diploma with 60%+ overall.

GIKI’s admissions policy explicitly states there are no special quotas, reserved seats, admission by donation, or arbitrary age limits — admission is by merit alone, though preference is given to fresh graduates.

GIKI Merit Impact: How Much Is Each Mark Worth?

Because the Admission Test carries 85% of your merit on a comparatively compact scale, it dominates your GIKI aggregate far more than at most other Pakistani universities.

ImprovementChange in merit
+10 marks in the Admission Test (out of 200)+4.25 points
+10 marks in SSC (out of 1100)+0.136 points
+10 marks in Intermediate/FScNo effect — not part of the merit formula

A single Admission Test mark moves your merit roughly 31 times more than an SSC mark, and your Intermediate result does not move it at all once you have cleared the 60% eligibility minimum. This makes Admission Test preparation overwhelmingly the highest-leverage use of your remaining time before applying to GIKI.

GIKI Closing Merit: What Score Do You Need?

GIKI does not fix one number every year: closing merit depends on the programme and that year’s applicant pool. It is widely reported to typically fall in the 75–85% range, with Computer Science and Electrical Engineering usually the most competitive programmes and the highest closing merit.

Use the previous cycle’s official closing merit for your target programme as a benchmark, then use the required-score tool above to see the Admission Test score you need to reach it.

How to Improve Your GIKI Merit Score

  • Prioritise the Admission Test above everything else. At 85% weightage, it is by far the single highest-leverage input in your GIKI merit.
  • Don’t neglect your SSC/O-Level percentage. At 15% weightage it still matters, and unlike the test it is already locked in by the time you apply.
  • Confirm your eligibility route early. Six different qualification paths exist for Engineering/CS alone, each with its own subject and percentage requirements.
  • Overseas applicants: decide between GIKI’s test and SAT-II before applying. You cannot switch once you have chosen, and applying on both is grounds for disqualification.
  • Practise under negative marking. Widely reported test formats deduct a mark for each wrong answer in Maths and Physics, so guessing blindly can cost you more than leaving a question blank.

Common GIKI Merit Calculation Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming Intermediate/FSc marks count toward merit. They do not — GIKI’s formula only uses your SSC/O-Level percentage and your Admission Test/SAT-II score. FSc only has to clear the 60% eligibility minimum.
  • Confusing GIKI’s own Admission Test with NTS NAT, ECAT or another national test. GIKI conducts its own test and does not accept these as substitutes; only SAT-II is accepted, and only from overseas applicants.
  • Assuming SAT-II is available to local applicants. It is restricted to overseas applicants only.
  • Using the wrong Admission Test total. The 200-mark total is widely reported, not officially published — confirm your own test’s scale, especially if you sat SAT-II instead.
  • Treating the estimate as final. Only GIKI’s own official merit list is authoritative.

Frequently asked questions

What is the GIKI merit formula?

85% Admission Test (or SAT-II for overseas applicants) + 15% SSC/O-Level (or your last completed qualification for High School Diploma, IB Diploma, BSc or DAE applicants). This applies uniformly across every GIKI undergraduate programme.

Does Intermediate/FSc count toward GIKI merit?

No. GIKI’s own Comparative Assessment Criteria has no line item for Intermediate/HSSC marks. FSc only has to meet a 60% eligibility minimum — it adds nothing to your merit score once you are eligible.

Can I use SAT-II instead of the GIKI Admission Test?

Only if you are an overseas applicant. SAT-II (Physics and Mathematics Level IIC) substitutes for GIKI’s own test in that case. You must choose one basis and cannot switch, and applying on both bases is grounds for disqualification.

How many marks is the GIKI Admission Test out of?

GIKI itself has not published an exact figure. It is widely reported as 200 marks (80 MCQs, 2 hours): Mathematics and Physics 30 questions each at 3 marks with -1 negative marking, English 20 questions at 1 mark with no negative marking.

What is the minimum eligibility for GIKI Engineering programmes?

At least 60% in Mathematics, Physics and Overall through one of six qualification routes (HSSC Pre-Engineering, HSSC Pre-Medical with Additional Maths, A-Levels, US/Canada High School Diploma or IB, BSc Maths & Physics, or DAE), or the IBCC equivalent for foreign qualifications.

Does GIKI have reserved seats or quotas?

No. GIKI’s own admissions policy explicitly states there are no special quotas, reserved seats, admission by donation, or arbitrary age limits — admission is by merit alone.

How is the GIKI aggregate calculated?

Convert your SSC/O-Level and Admission Test/SAT-II results to percentages, multiply by 15% and 85% respectively, and add the results. For example, SSC 950/1100 and Admission Test 160/200 give 80.95%.

What merit do I need to get into GIKI?

It depends on the programme and applicant pool that year, so there is no fixed number, though closing merit is widely reported to typically fall between 75% and 85%, with Computer Science and Electrical Engineering usually the highest. Use the previous cycle’s official closing merit for your programme as a benchmark.

Is this the official GIKI merit?

No. This is an independent estimator built directly from GIKI’s own Undergraduate Admissions Policy and eligibility pages. Your official merit position is published by GIKI on its own admissions portal.

Why is my merit different from the one GIKI published?

Common reasons are mistakenly including Intermediate/FSc marks (GIKI does not weight them), using the wrong Admission Test total, or applying the wrong basis (Admission Test vs SAT-II). Confirm the exact figures with GIKI’s admissions office.

Equivalence and recognition

How this page was checked. The 85/15 merit formula and the absence of any Intermediate weighting are confirmed directly from GIKI’s own Undergraduate Admissions Policy PDF and its live Eligibility and Assessment Criteria page, both read in September 2026. Eligibility routes and their 60% thresholds come from the same two official sources. The Admission Test’s subject areas (Mathematics, Physics, English for Engineering/Computing; Mathematics and English for Management Sciences) are confirmed from GIKI’s own official syllabus PDFs; the specific 80-MCQ/200-mark/negative-marking breakdown is disclosed as widely reported by test-prep platforms rather than a figure GIKI itself publishes numerically. Of the competitor pages checked for this formula, most independently corroborated the 85/15 split with no Intermediate weight; one showed a generic weightage template that did not match GIKI’s own published formula, which is why we verified directly against GIKI’s own policy document rather than relying on any single tracker.
