IUB Merit & Aggregate Calculator

Use this free IUB (The Islamia University of Bahawalpur) merit and aggregate calculator to calculate your admission merit with IUB’s own published formulas. Choose your programme, enter your Intermediate marks (and test score where one counts), and include the Hafiz, NCC and year-lost adjustments.

Quick answer

For most IUB BS programmes, merit is simply the percentage of your Intermediate marks, and Matric is not counted. BSc Engineering uses 70% FSc + 30% ECAT/IUB test. Engineering technology and allied health programmes (DPT, MLT, Nursing and others) use 80% academic + 20% test, and B.Arch uses 60% Intermediate + 40% drawing test. Hafiz-e-Quran and NCC each add 20 marks, and each year lost costs 5 marks (10 for engineering).

For engineering, technology, allied health and architecture, set your target merit and we work backwards to the test score you need.

IUB Merit Formula 2026 by Programme

IUB publishes a merit formula for every programme on its Eligibility Criteria page:

Programme groupMerit formula
Most BS programmes: arts, languages, computing (CS, IT, SE, AI, Data Science), business, commerce, education, Islamic studies, social sciences, sciences, agriculture, law, Pharm-D, DVMPercentage of Intermediate marks
BSc Electrical Power, Electronic, Computer Systems, Electrical (Communication), Civil Engineering70% FSc + 30% ECAT/IUB Test
BS Electrical Engineering Technology, Renewable Energy, Electronics, Biomedical Electronics, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Cyber Security & Digital Forensic, Intelligent Systems & Robotics80% academic + 20% test
Doctor of Physical Therapy, BS Human Nutrition, Public Health, Medical Lab Technology, Forensic Science, Generic BSN80% FSc + 20% test
Bachelor of Architecture60% Intermediate + 40% Drawing & Interview Test

Matric is not part of IUB merit. IUB uses it only to break ties, after your Intermediate total.

Some programmes list a test (IUB Test, NAT, MCAT or LAT) as an admission requirement, but their merit formula is still the percentage of Intermediate marks. The test only decides whether you qualify. For LLB, for example, you must pass the HEC LAT with at least 50 marks.

IUB Bonus Marks and Year-Lost Deduction

IUB adjusts your last qualifying exam marks (FA/FSc) before calculating merit:

CaseAdjustment
Hafiz-e-Quran+20 marks
NCC / Women Guard (WG)+20 marks
Each year lost after Intermediate−5 marks (maximum −40)
Each year lost, BSc Engineering−10 marks

There is no deduction if you took additional Mathematics in the current year. The year-lost rule does not apply to in-service seats. On a 1100-mark Intermediate, the Hafiz bonus adds about 1.8 points to your merit for most BS programmes.

How to Calculate Your IUB Merit: Worked Examples

Most BS programmes

A student scores 980/1100 in Intermediate: 980 ÷ 1100 × 100 = 89.09%. As a Hafiz-e-Quran, the marks become 1000/1100 = 90.91%.

BSc Engineering

ComponentMarksPercentageWeightagePoints
FSc980 / 110089.09%70%62.36
ECAT / IUB Test60 / 10060.00%30%18.00
Merit——100%80.36%

DPT and allied health

The same FSc marks with 70/100 in the test: 89.09% × 0.80 + 70% × 0.20 = 71.27 + 14.00 = 85.27%.

Enter any of these examples in the calculator above and you will get the same result.

IUB Merit Impact: How Much Is Each Mark Worth?

ImprovementMost BSBSc EngineeringDPT / allied health
+10 marks in Intermediate (out of 1100)+0.91 points+0.64 points+0.73 points
+1 test mark (out of 100)—+0.30 points+0.20 points
Hafiz-e-Quran (+20 marks)+1.82 points+1.27 points+1.45 points

Your Intermediate result decides almost all of your IUB merit, so an improvement exam or a Hafiz/NCC certificate can make a real difference. Remember that each extra year after Intermediate costs 5 marks.

IUB Closing Merit: What Merit Do You Need?

IUB publishes merit lists for each programme and campus (Bahawalpur main campuses plus sub-campuses). There is no fixed cut-off: it depends on seats and applicants each session.

For most BS programmes your merit is just your Intermediate percentage, so you can compare it directly with the previous year’s closing merit for your programme.

How to Improve Your IUB Merit

  • Apply in the same year you pass Intermediate. Each lost year costs 5 marks (10 for engineering).
  • Claim Hafiz-e-Quran and NCC/WG marks if eligible: 20 marks each.
  • For engineering, prepare for ECAT or the IUB test. It carries 30%.
  • Make sure you clear any qualifying test. Even where the test isn’t weighted (for example Pharm-D, DVM or LLB), you must pass it.
  • Apply to more than one programme and campus. Each has its own merit list.

Common IUB Merit Calculation Mistakes to Avoid

  • Adding Matric to IUB merit. Matric only breaks ties.
  • Adding a qualifying test to your merit. For most BS programmes the test only decides eligibility.
  • Using 70/30 for engineering technology. Technology and allied health programmes use 80/20.
  • Forgetting the year-lost deduction. It applies unless you apply straight after Intermediate.
  • Treating the estimate as final. Only IUB’s merit lists are official.

How this page was checked. Every formula comes from the merit-formula column of IUB’s own Eligibility Criteria page. The Hafiz-e-Quran and NCC/WG marks, year-lost deductions and tie rules come from IUB’s Merit Determination page. Both were read in September 2026. One of the other calculator pages checked matched IUB’s formulas for engineering, technology, allied health and architecture, but did not calculate most BS programmes. IUB’s own page states their merit is the percentage of Intermediate marks, so this page includes it. Another linked document could not be read without an account.
