NUMS
Armed Forces-administered network Rawalpindi (HQ) Entry test: NUMS MDCAT (out of 200) Separate test from national MDCAT Updated September 2026

NUMS & Army Medical College Merit & Aggregate Calculator

Use this free NUMS (National University of Medical Sciences) merit and aggregate calculator to calculate your MBBS or BDS admission aggregate. Enter your Matric, FSc and NUMS MDCAT marks, then see the score you need for your target merit.

Quick answer

NUMS’s own official admission advertisement confirms the MBBS/BDS merit formula is 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% Entrance Test. The Entrance Test is NUMS MDCAT (out of 200), or a valid MCAT (USA) or UCAT (UK). NUMS MDCAT is a separate test from the national/PMDC MDCAT — different administering body, different total marks (200, not 180), and a different exam pattern.

What NUMS MDCAT score do you need?

Set your target merit and we work backwards from your Matric and FSc marks to the NUMS MDCAT score you need. The grid shows your merit at every score from 50% to 100% of the paper.

NUMS Merit Formula 2027: 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% Entrance Test

NUMS’s official 2025-26 admission advertisement states the MBBS/BDS weightage formula directly:

ComponentWeightage
Entrance Test (NUMS MDCAT / MCAT-USA / UCAT-UK)50%
HSSC / FSc (Pre-Medical) / Equivalent40%
SSC / Matric / Equivalent10%

The Entrance Test component accepts three different tests: NUMS MDCAT (NUMS’s own test), a valid MCAT (USA), or a valid UCAT (UK), each carrying the same 50% weight where applicable, with alternative-test scores subject to a 50% minimum in the subjects prescribed under PM&DC Admissions Regulations.

This formula applies uniformly across NUMS’s centralised admission for its constituent, affiliated and Armed Forces administered medical and dental colleges.

NUMS MDCAT vs National MDCAT: Two Different Tests

NUMS MDCAT and the national MDCAT (run by PMDC for public medical colleges through UHS, KMU and other provincial authorities) are two separate tests, not the same exam under a different name.

NUMS MDCATNational MDCAT (PMDC)
Administered byNUMSPMDC, via provincial authorities
Total marks200 (two papers)180 (single paper)
Used forNUMS network colleges (Army Medical College and affiliates)Public medical/dental colleges nationwide

A NUMS MDCAT score is not automatically convertible to a national MDCAT score, and vice versa. If you are applying to both NUMS-network colleges and separate public medical colleges, you may need to sit both tests.

How to Calculate Your NUMS Aggregate: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Convert Matric and FSc to percentages. Divide obtained marks by total marks and multiply by 100.
  2. Convert your NUMS MDCAT score. Divide by 200 and multiply by 100.
  3. Multiply by the weightage. Matric × 0.10, FSc × 0.40, NUMS MDCAT × 0.50.
  4. Add the three numbers. The total is your NUMS aggregate out of 100.

Worked example

A student scores 950/1100 in Matric, 980/1100 in FSc and 160/200 in NUMS MDCAT.

ComponentMarksPercentageWeightagePoints
NUMS MDCAT160 / 20080.00%50%40.00

Matric950 / 110086.36%10%8.64
Total merit——100%84.27%

Try these same numbers in the calculator above and you will get 84.27%.

NUMS MDCAT Exam Pattern: Two Papers, 200 Marks

NUMS MDCAT is held as two papers on the same day, with no negative marking on either:

PaperContentMarksDuration
Paper-IBiology, Chemistry, Physics, English1502 hours 45 minutes
Paper-IIPsychological assessment5015 minutes
Total—200—

The most commonly reported subject split for Paper-I is Biology 55 MCQs, Chemistry 40 MCQs, Physics 40 MCQs and English 15 MCQs. One source instead reports Biology 65 and Physics 30, so this split is not fully settled across sources; confirm the current split in your NUMS MDCAT admit card or syllabus notice.

Paper-II’s psychological assessment questions are drawn from reasoning, personality and aptitude items rather than academic subject knowledge. How Paper-II factors into the 50% Entrance Test weight for civilian candidates specifically is not clearly stated in NUMS’s published merit formula, so this calculator treats your overall NUMS MDCAT percentage (out of the full 200) as the Entrance Test score. Confirm the exact scoring treatment with NUMS if your admission decision depends on it.

NUMS Eligibility Criteria 2027 (Minimum Marks)

These minimums are confirmed from NUMS’s own admission advertisement:

  • Pass the NUMS MDCAT with at least 55% for MBBS or 50% for BDS (or an accepted MCAT/UCAT score with 50% in the prescribed subjects).
  • At least 60% aggregate marks in FSc (Pre-Medical) or equivalent.
  • A minimum of twelve years of education, including Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Mathematics.
  • Foreign-seat applicants need an equivalence certificate from IBCC and Chemistry plus Biology as mandatory subjects.

Matric/SSC and FSc/HSSC certificates issued by a BISE board must be IBCC-attested to be accepted.

NUMS Network: Medical & Dental Colleges This Formula Covers

NUMS runs centralised admission for its constituent, affiliated and Armed Forces administered medical and dental colleges, all under the same 10-40-50 formula:

NUMS Merit Impact: How Much Is Each Mark Worth?

With NUMS MDCAT carrying half the total weight and scored out of only 200, it moves your merit fastest per raw mark.

ImprovementChange in merit
+1 mark in NUMS MDCAT (out of 200)+0.25 points
+10 marks in FSc (out of 1100)+0.364 points
+10 marks in Matric (out of 1100)+0.091 points

One extra NUMS MDCAT mark is worth roughly as much as 7 extra FSc marks and 27 extra Matric marks. NUMS MDCAT preparation is the highest-leverage use of your remaining time.

NUMS Closing Merit: What Aggregate Do You Need?

NUMS does not publish a single target figure; closing merit depends on the college, quota and applicant pool that year. The open-merit closing range has run from 82.9% to 94.6% across the 2022-2024 cycles — reported, not an NUMS-published figure.

Use the previous cycle’s official closing merit for your target college as a benchmark, then use the required-score tool above to see the NUMS MDCAT score you need to reach it.

How to Improve Your NUMS Merit Score

  • Prioritise NUMS MDCAT preparation. At 50% weightage on a 200-point scale, it moves your merit further than any single input.
  • Do not confuse NUMS MDCAT with the national MDCAT. They are different tests with different totals (200 vs 180); prepare for the one your target colleges actually require.
  • Do not neglect FSc. At 40% weightage, a strong Intermediate result is still worth more per mark than Matric.
  • Check the MCAT/UCAT route if it applies to you. A qualifying MCAT (USA) or UCAT (UK) score can substitute for NUMS MDCAT.
  • Compare colleges within the NUMS network. The same aggregate can clear a seat at one college and miss it at another.
  • Apply broadly. Consider both the NUMS network and separate public medical colleges so a single test day does not decide your whole year.

Common NUMS Aggregate Calculation Mistakes to Avoid

  • Dividing NUMS MDCAT by 180 instead of 200. NUMS MDCAT and the national MDCAT use different totals.
  • Averaging the three components. The Entrance Test is weighted 50%, so a simple average gives the wrong answer.
  • Assuming NUMS MDCAT and national MDCAT scores are interchangeable. They are separate tests administered by different bodies.
  • Using the wrong FSc total. Match the total marks on the calculator to your board’s actual FSc total.
  • Treating the estimate as final. Only NUMS’s own merit list is official.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Army Medical College (AMC) aggregate calculated?

Army Medical College, Rawalpindi admits MBBS and BDS students through NUMS, so it uses the NUMS formula: 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% NUMS MDCAT (out of 200). Use the calculator above; there is no separate AMC formula.

What is the NUMS merit formula?

NUMS’s own official admission advertisement confirms 10% Matric, 40% FSc (Pre-Medical) and 50% Entrance Test (NUMS MDCAT, or a valid MCAT-USA or UCAT-UK).

Is NUMS MDCAT the same as the national MDCAT?

No. NUMS MDCAT is a separate test administered by NUMS itself, scored out of 200 across two papers. The national MDCAT, run by PMDC through provincial authorities, is a single 180-mark paper. They are not interchangeable.

How many marks is NUMS MDCAT out of?

NUMS MDCAT is scored out of 200: Paper-I (150 marks, academic subjects) plus Paper-II (50 marks, psychological assessment).

How is the NUMS aggregate calculated?

Convert Matric and FSc marks to percentages, divide your NUMS MDCAT score by 200, then apply the 0.10/0.40/0.50 weightage and add the results. For example, Matric 950/1100, FSc 980/1100 and NUMS MDCAT 160/200 give 84.27%.

What is the NUMS MDCAT exam pattern?

Two papers on the same day: Paper-I has 150 MCQs across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English (2 hours 45 minutes), and Paper-II has 50 psychological-assessment MCQs (15 minutes). Neither paper has negative marking.

Does the psychological assessment (Paper-II) count toward my merit?

NUMS’s published formula gives the overall Entrance Test 50% weight without stating a separate internal split between Paper-I and Paper-II for civilian candidates. This calculator uses your combined NUMS MDCAT percentage out of 200. Confirm the exact scoring treatment with NUMS if this matters to your decision.

What is the minimum eligibility for NUMS?

Pass NUMS MDCAT with at least 55% for MBBS or 50% for BDS, hold at least 60% aggregate in FSc (Pre-Medical) or equivalent, and have completed twelve years of education including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics.

Can I use MCAT (USA) or UCAT (UK) instead of NUMS MDCAT?

Yes. NUMS accepts a valid MCAT (USA) or UCAT (UK) score with a minimum of 50% in the subjects prescribed under PM&DC Admissions Regulations, carrying the same 50% Entrance Test weight as NUMS MDCAT.

Which colleges does the NUMS merit formula apply to?

NUMS’s constituent, affiliated and Armed Forces administered medical and dental colleges, including Army Medical College, CMH-affiliated colleges, HITEC, Wah Medical College, Bahria University’s medical colleges, Fazaia colleges, Foundation University Medical College and NUST School of Health Sciences.

How much does NUMS MDCAT matter compared with FSc and Matric?

A great deal. One extra NUMS MDCAT mark (out of 200) adds 0.25 points to your merit, while ten extra FSc marks add about 0.364 points and ten extra Matric marks add about 0.091 points.

What NUMS MDCAT score do I need to reach a target merit?

Subtract your Matric and FSc points from your target and divide by 0.50, then convert to a score out of 200. For example, with Matric 950/1100 and FSc 980/1100 you already have 44.27 points, so a target of 85% needs a NUMS MDCAT score of at least 175/200. Use the required-score tool on this page to do it for your own marks.

What merit do I need to get into NUMS?

It depends on the college, quota and applicant pool that year. Open-merit closing aggregates have run between 82.9% and 94.6% across 2022-2024, though this is reported, not an NUMS-published figure. Use the previous cycle’s official closing merit for your target college as a benchmark.

Is this the official NUMS merit?

No. This is an independent estimator built from NUMS’s own published admission advertisement. Your official merit position is published by NUMS on its admissions portal.

Why is my merit different from the one NUMS published?

Common reasons are dividing NUMS MDCAT by the wrong total (180 instead of 200), confusing NUMS MDCAT with the national MDCAT, using the wrong FSc total, or rounding. Confirm the exact figures with NUMS’s admissions office.
