About Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology

Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) is a private university established in 1994 in Karachi, Sindh, under the patronage of Sir Syed Trust. The university is named after Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (1817–1898) — the Muslim reformer, educationist, and founder of Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College (which later became Aligarh Muslim University) — whose legacy of promoting modern scientific education for Muslims continues through SSUET's engineering-focused mission.

SSUET is fully HEC-chartered and follows the HEC 4.0 grading scale and semester system across all programmes. As a PEC-accredited engineering university, SSUET BE degree holders are eligible to register with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) upon graduation, a mandatory requirement for professional engineering practice in Pakistan. The university focuses primarily on engineering and technology disciplines, with additional programmes in computing and business.

Located in Karachi's University Road area, SSUET serves students from across Karachi and interior Sindh, and is one of the oldest private engineering universities in Pakistan.

SSUET Grading Scale (Official 10-Grade System)

SSUET follows the HEC-mandated 10-grade 4.0 scale applied across all HEC-chartered universities in Pakistan:

GradeGrade PointsPercentageDescription
A+ / A4.0085–100%Excellent / Outstanding
A-3.6780–84%Very Good
B+3.3375–79%Good
B3.0070–74%Above Average
B-2.6765–69%Average
C+2.3360–64%Below Average
C2.0055–59%Satisfactory
C-1.6750–54%Pass
D1.0045–49%Minimum Pass
F0.00Below 45%Fail

Grade D (45–49%, 1.00 point) is the minimum passing grade. An F must be retaken; the credit does not count toward degree completion until passed. BE engineering students must also meet PEC graduation requirements.

How to Calculate Your SSUET GPA

Semester GPA at SSUET is a credit-weighted average of all courses enrolled that semester:

  1. Find the grade point for each course from the grading table above.
  2. Multiply each grade point by that course's credit hours to get Quality Points.
  3. Sum all Quality Points for the semester.
  4. Divide by total credit hours enrolled that semester.

Formula: GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)

Example (BE Computer Engineering Sem 1): Programming Fundamentals (3 cr, A = 4.00) + Applied Physics (3 cr, B+ = 3.33) + Calculus (3 cr, A- = 3.67) + English (2 cr, A = 4.00) + Pak Studies (2 cr, B = 3.00): QP = 12.00 + 9.99 + 11.01 + 8.00 + 6.00 = 47.00. Credits = 13. GPA = 3.62.

How to Calculate Your SSUET CGPA

CGPA aggregates your academic performance across all completed semesters at SSUET:

CGPA Formula: CGPA = Total Quality Points (All Semesters) ÷ Total Credit Hours Completed

Enter each semester's GPA and credit hours in the CGPA tab above for an instant cumulative CGPA result.

Example: Semester 1: GPA 3.62, 13 cr (47.06 QP). Semester 2: GPA 3.10, 15 cr (46.50 QP). CGPA = 93.56 ÷ 28 = 3.34.

Absolute vs Relative Grading at SSUET

SSUET uses absolute grading as mandated by HEC for all Pakistani universities:

ApproachHow It WorksImplication for Students
Absolute Grading (SSUET standard)Fixed percentage thresholds determine grades (85%+ = A)Your grade depends on your own marks, not class performance
Relative Grading (not used)Grades adjusted based on class distributionClass average shifts individual grade thresholds

Under absolute grading, SSUET engineering students always know the exact marks needed in each course — making semester CGPA and PEC graduation milestone planning predictable.
