About University of Baltistan
The University of Baltistan (UoB) is a public chartered university located in Skardu, the headquarters of Baltistan division in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Established in 2012 by the GB Legislative Assembly and granted HEC charter, UoB is one of the newest and most important higher education institutions in Pakistan’s northernmost territory, serving students from Skardu, Ghanche, Shigar, and the broader Baltistan region.
Situated at the confluence of the Indus and Shigar rivers in the Karakoram mountain range, the University of Baltistan operates in one of the most geographically remote yet ecologically unique regions of Pakistan. UoB follows the semester system with the HEC 4.0 grading scale across all its programmes and is HEC-recognised.
UoB plays a crucial role in expanding access to higher education for the youth of Baltistan — a region with high literacy aspiration but historically limited access to university-level education. Alongside Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit, UoB is one of only two public universities serving all of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Absolute vs Relative Grading at University of Baltistan
UoB uses absolute grading — your grade is assigned based on your own performance against fixed percentage thresholds, not relative to how other students in your class performed.
| Grading Method | How It Works | Used at UoB |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute Grading | Fixed thresholds: 85%+ = A (4.00), 80–84% = A- (3.67), etc. | Standard across all programmes |
| Relative / Curve Grading | Top performers always get A; grades adjusted to class distribution | Not used as standard |
This means the GPA estimate from this calculator is reliable — your grade depends entirely on your own exam and coursework marks against the fixed scale.
