About University of Gilgit-Baltistan

The University of Gilgit-Baltistan (UGB) is a public university established in 2015 by the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, headquartered in Gilgit city. It was created to expand access to higher education across the remote and mountainous GB region, which has historically had limited access to universities.

UGB is distinct from Karakoram International University (KIU), which is the older public university also based in Gilgit. UGB operates as a separate HEC-chartered institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to students from Gilgit, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, and Astore districts of GB, as well as students from other provinces.

The university follows the HEC-mandated semester system with the standard 4.0 GPA scale, providing students from one of Pakistan’s most scenic and strategically significant regions with formal degree credentials recognised across Pakistan.

How to Calculate Your UGB GPA

Your semester GPA at UGB is calculated by multiplying each course’s credit hours by its grade points, summing all results, and dividing by total credit hours for that semester.

GPA Formula: GPA = ∑(Credit Hours × Grade Points) ÷ ∑(Credit Hours)

Example: Introduction to Computing (3 cr, A = 4.00), Pakistan Studies (2 cr, A- = 3.67), Principles of Management (3 cr, B+ = 3.33), Economics (3 cr, B = 3.00).

  • Computing: 3 × 4.00 = 12.00
  • Pakistan Studies: 2 × 3.67 = 7.34
  • Management: 3 × 3.33 = 9.99
  • Economics: 3 × 3.00 = 9.00
  • Total: 38.33 ÷ 11 credit hours = GPA 3.48
