About Gomal University
Gomal University, established in 1974, is the premier public university of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, located in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan). It is named after the Gomal River, a tributary of the Indus that flows through the DI Khan region. Gomal University is recognised by HEC and is the only comprehensive public university serving the entire South KPK region, including the districts of DI Khan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and the adjacent tribal districts of South Waziristan and North Waziristan.
The university was established during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's government as part of a broader effort to extend higher education to previously underserved regions of Pakistan. For decades, Gomal University was the only degree-granting institution accessible to the youth of South KPK and the adjacent tribal regions. It has trained generations of doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, and civil servants who have served the South KPK community. The university has a multi-faculty campus covering sciences, social sciences, management, law, pharmacy, agriculture, and education.
Gomal University conducts MPhil and PhD programmes in addition to BS/undergraduate degrees, and has collaboration agreements with various national and international research institutions. The university serves a significant number of students from tribal and rural backgrounds on merit and need-based scholarships, playing an essential role in developing human capital in one of Pakistan's most strategically important and historically underserved regions.

Gomal University Minimum CGPA Requirements & Probation
Gomal University requires a minimum CGPA of 2.0 for graduation from all BS undergraduate degrees, per HEC Pakistan regulations. MPhil students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5, and PhD students must achieve 3.0 in their coursework phase. The Pharm-D programme has stricter academic standing requirements due to professional body standards. Students falling below the minimum CGPA are placed on academic probation for one semester and given the opportunity to improve before any further action is taken.
Gomal University Dean's List & Academic Distinctions
Gomal University recognises academic excellence through its Dean's List, awarded each semester to students who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or above with a full course load and no failing grades. This recognition appears on the official transcript and is significant for KPK-PSC, FPSC, and postgraduate admissions. Students graduating with a cumulative CGPA of 3.5 or above receive their degree With Distinction. Merit certificates and Vice Chancellor's Awards are presented at the annual convocation.
Gomal University Campus & Programmes
Sciences and Agriculture
Gomal University's science programmes include BS Agriculture, BS Computer Science, BS Physics, BS Chemistry, BS Mathematics, BS Zoology, BS Botany, BS Microbiology, BS Environmental Sciences, and BS Food Sciences. Given DI Khan's agricultural character — cotton, wheat, and sugarcane cultivation along the Indus plain — the BS Agriculture programme has historically been one of the university's most important. The computing programme is the fastest-growing faculty as rural youth increasingly seek IT skills for careers in Pakistan's growing digital economy.
Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Gomal University offers a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) programme — one of the few pharmacy schools in KPK. Given the shortage of health professionals in South KPK, this pharmacy school has been a vital source of trained pharmacists for the region's hospitals, health clinics, and medical stores. The Pharm-D is a 5-year professional degree with rigorous CGPA requirements. Graduates serve across DI Khan District Hospital, Lady Reading Peshawar, and private pharmacies across South KPK.
Law, Social Sciences, and Education
Gomal University's Faculty of Law offers an LLB programme — the only law degree available within South KPK, making it critically important for training the legal professionals, judges, and lawyers who serve DI Khan's courts and public institutions. Social science and humanities programmes include BS English, BS Economics, BS Political Science, BS Islamic Studies, BS Pakistan Studies, BS Urdu, and BS Education. The Education faculty is crucial for producing school teachers across a region where quality primary and secondary schooling has historically been scarce.
Absolute vs Relative Grading at Gomal University
Gomal University uses absolute grading as mandated by HEC for all chartered Pakistani universities. Grade thresholds are fixed before examinations begin, meaning your grade reflects your own performance against a published standard rather than a competitive ranking among classmates. This is particularly important at Gomal University, where students come from diverse educational backgrounds across rural South KPK, ensuring all are evaluated on the same objective standard.

Gomal University Admission Aggregate & Merit Calculator
Aggregate = Entry Test (50%) + Matric % (25%) + FSc / Intermediate % (25%)
Gomal University admissions use a merit aggregate based on a university-administered entry test, Matric results, and FSc marks. Entry test and subject requirements vary by programme — Pharm-D and BS Agriculture require FSc Pre-Medical or Pre-Engineering. The university provides seats under KPK open merit, KPK domicile quota, and tribal district quotas. Merit lists are published separately for each faculty. Students from FATA/merged districts benefit from special quota allocations.
