UMT’s Fall 2026 admissions page sets undergraduate merit at 20% Matric + 50% Intermediate + 30% UMT Entrance Test, with an interview where required. You need at least 50% in the entrance test for most programmes. LL.B also requires 50% in the HEC LAT, and engineering requires 33% in an HEC-approved engineering test.
Calculate your UMT merit
Free · instant · no loginEnter your entrance test score out of the total on your result. For engineering, use your HEC-approved engineering test score and its total (for example, ECAT is out of 400).
What UMT Entrance Test score do you need?
Set your target merit and we work backwards from your Matric and FSc marks to the UMT Entrance Test score you need. The grid shows your merit at every score from 50% to 100% of the paper.
UMT Merit Formula 2026: 20% Matric + 50% Intermediate + 30% Test
UMT’s Fall 2026 admissions page states one merit formula for undergraduate programmes:
| Component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| Intermediate / A-Level | 50% |
| UMT Entrance Test | 30% |
| Matric / O-Level | 20% |
| Interview | If required (no weight published) |
Intermediate carries half your merit, and Matric carries 20%, which is more than most universities give it. The entrance test is 30%, but you also need at least 50% in it to be eligible for most programmes.
LL.B: you also need 50% in the HEC Law Admission Test (LAT) and must pass a UMT interview. Engineering: UMT requires at least 33% in an engineering test from an HEC-approved testing body and does not publish a separate weightage for engineering.
How to Calculate Your UMT Aggregate: Step-by-Step Guide
- Convert each result to a percentage. Divide obtained marks by total marks and multiply by 100.
- Multiply by UMT’s weightage. Matric × 0.20, Intermediate × 0.50, entrance test × 0.30.
- Add the three results. The total is your UMT merit out of 100.
Worked example
A student scores 950/1100 in Matric, 980/1100 in Intermediate and 70/100 in the UMT Entrance Test.
| Component | Marks | Percentage | Weightage | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Intermediate | 980 / 1100 | 89.09% | 50% | 44.55 |
| Entrance Test | 70 / 100 | 70.00% | 30% | 21.00 |
| Matric | 950 / 1100 | 86.36% | 20% | 17.27 |
| Total merit | — | — | 100% | 82.82% |
Enter the same numbers in the calculator above and you will get 82.82%.
UMT Entrance Test and Interview
Most UMT undergraduate programmes need at least 50% in the UMT admission test. Some programmes also accept an NTS result.
| Programme | Test requirement |
|---|---|
| Most BS programmes | UMT admission test, minimum 50% |
| BS Computer Science, Data Science, IT, Cyber Security, AI | Subject admission test, minimum 50% |
| BS English, English Literature, Linguistics, Computational Linguistics | Admission test, minimum 45% (plus interview for English and English Literature) |
| B.Arch, Design, Interior Architecture, Fashion and Textile Design, City & Regional Planning | Admission test plus drawing test, minimum 50% (interview for architecture, planning and design) |
| BS Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering; Construction Management; Information Security Engineering Technology | Engineering test from an HEC-approved testing body, minimum 33% |
| LL.B | 50% in the HEC LAT plus a UMT interview |
UMT publishes a sample entry test on its admissions site. The application processing fee is Rs 2,000.
UMT Eligibility Criteria 2026
Every undergraduate programme requires no third division in Matric. Minimum Intermediate / A-Level marks by programme group:
| Programme group | Minimum in Intermediate |
|---|---|
| BS Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering; B.Arch; Pharm-D; Doctor of Physical Therapy | 60% |
| Business school (BBA, Accounting & Finance, Economics, FinTech and others); CS, Data Science, IT, Cyber Security, AI; most allied health; BS Clinical Psychology | 50% |
| BS Psychology, English, Media, Mathematics, Physics, Public Administration, Design, Textiles, Robotics, Construction Management; LL.B | 45% |
| Associate Degree (ADP) programmes | 40% to 50% |
Pre-Medical students can apply to CS, Data Science, IT, Cyber Security and AI, but must pass 6 credits of Mathematics deficiency courses in their first two semesters. O/A-Level and foreign qualifications need an IBCC equivalence certificate.
UMT Merit Scholarships 2026 by Intermediate Percentage
UMT’s merit scholarships depend on your Intermediate (or IBCC-equivalent A-Level) percentage, not on your admission merit. For all schools except DPT, Pharm-D, B.Arch and LL.B:
| Intermediate % | Tuition fee waiver |
|---|---|
| Position holders | 100% + free transport and housing, or a tablet |
| 95% and above | 100% |
| 90% to 94.99% | 95% |
| 85% to 89.99% | 85% |
| 80% to 84.99% | 65% |
| 75% to 79.99% | 40% |
| 70% to 74.99% | 25% |
| 65% to 69.99% | 10% |
| 60% to 64.99% (selected programmes only) | 10% |
DPT and B.Arch offer 50% (90% and above, 7 seats), 40% (85–89.99%, 13 seats) and 30% (80–84.99%, 13 seats). Pharm-D offers 50% (90% and above, 10 seats), 40% (85–89.99%, 20 seats) and 30% (80–84.99%, 20 seats).
Waivers apply to tuition only. To keep one, you must maintain a minimum CGPA, from 3.00 for a 10% waiver up to 3.80 for 100%. You can hold only one scholarship at a time.
UMT Merit Impact: How Much Is Each Mark Worth?
| Improvement | Change in merit |
|---|---|
| +1 mark in the entrance test (out of 100) | +0.30 points |
| +10 marks in Intermediate (out of 1100) | +0.45 points |
| +10 marks in Matric (out of 1100) | +0.18 points |
Each entrance test mark is worth about as much as seven Intermediate marks. Your Intermediate result is already fixed when you apply, so preparing for the test is the quickest way to raise your merit.
UMT Closing Merit: What Merit Do You Need?
UMT publishes merit lists by programme after the test and interview. There is no fixed cut-off, because it depends on seats and applicants each cycle. Computer Science, engineering, Pharm-D and DPT are usually the most competitive.
Use the last merit list for your programme as a benchmark, then use the required-score tool above to see the test score you need.
How to Improve Your UMT Merit
- Aim well above 50% in the entrance test. 50% only gets you in; each mark above it adds 0.30 to your merit.
- Remember Matric counts for 20%. A strong Matric result helps more at UMT than at most universities.
- Check your scholarship slab. Crossing 80%, 85% or 90% in Intermediate moves you into a much higher tuition waiver.
- Prepare for the interview if your programme has one, and for the drawing test in architecture and design.
- For engineering, take an HEC-approved engineering test early. You need at least 33%.
Common UMT Merit Calculation Mistakes to Avoid
- Using 10/40/50. UMT’s published formula is 20% Matric + 50% Intermediate + 30% test.
- Confusing scholarships with admission merit. Scholarship slabs use your Intermediate percentage alone.
- Ignoring the Matric rule. A third division in Matric makes you ineligible for undergraduate programmes.
- Using the wrong test total for engineering. Divide by your engineering test’s own total, such as 400 for ECAT.
- Treating the estimate as final. Only UMT’s merit lists are official.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UMT merit formula?
