Bahria University Merit & Aggregate Calculator

Use this free Bahria University merit and aggregate calculator to calculate your admission merit for the Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi campuses. Enter your SSC, HSSC and BU CBT (or SAT) marks, then see the test score you need for your target merit.

Quick answer

Bahria University’s own Admissions Policy sets one formula for every undergraduate programme: 10% SSC + 30% HSSC + 60% BU Admission Test (CBT), or an accepted SAT score in place of the CBT. MBBS and BDS at Bahria’s NUMS-affiliated medical and dental colleges use a different formula: 10% SSC + 40% FSc + 50% NUMS MDCAT.

Bahria University Merit Formula 2027: 10% SSC + 30% HSSC + 60% CBT

Bahria University’s Admissions Policy (clause 2.11.3) fixes one weightage for all undergraduate programmes at every campus. Bahria’s current Merit Criteria page applies the same split to its semester-based health programmes (DPT, BS Medical Lab Technology, BS Biotechnology, BS Nursing). MBBS and BDS follow the national PM&DC formula instead:

ProgrammeSSCHSSC / FScTest
All undergraduate programmes (Engineering, Computing, Business, Social Sciences, Law, Media, Psychology, and others)10%30%60% BU CBT or SAT
DPT, BS-MLT, BS-Biotechnology, BS-Nursing10%30%60% BU CBT
MBBS / BDS (NUMS-affiliated Bahria colleges)10%40%50% NUMS MDCAT

The test carries more weight than your SSC and HSSC combined. If you take more than one accepted test, Bahria uses your best score. A BU Admission Test score stays valid for one year, but you then compete against that year’s applicants.

Bahria adds no bonus marks for Hafiz-e-Quran or anything else. The same formula applies at the E-8 and H-11 campuses in Islamabad, the Lahore campus, the Karachi campus, the Institute of Professional Psychology in Karachi, and the Health Sciences campuses in Karachi and Islamabad.

How to Calculate Your Bahria Aggregate: Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Convert each result to a percentage. Divide obtained marks by total marks and multiply by 100 for SSC, HSSC and the CBT (out of 100) or SAT (out of 1600).
  2. Multiply by Bahria’s weightage. SSC percentage × 0.10, HSSC percentage × 0.30, test percentage × 0.60.
  3. Add the three results. The total is your Bahria merit out of 100.

Worked example: undergraduate programme

A student scores 950/1100 in SSC, 980/1100 in HSSC and 70/100 in the BU CBT.

Bahria University Entry Test (CBT): Pattern and Sections

Bahria runs its own computer-based admission test (CBT) for undergraduate programmes. It has 100 MCQs worth 100 marks, with 120 minutes and no negative marking. Each question has four options and one correct answer. You need 33% to pass. Passing is compulsory however strong your SSC and HSSC results are.

The sections depend on the department you apply to:

DepartmentCBT sections
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical EngineeringVerbal ability, Quantitative reasoning, Analytical reasoning, Physics and Mathematics
Management Sciences, Business, Media, Humanities & Social Sciences (except BS English), Maritime Sciences, LawVerbal ability, Quantitative reasoning, Analytical reasoning, General knowledge
Earth & Environmental SciencesVerbal ability, Quantitative reasoning, Analytical reasoning, Biology or Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics
BS Psychology, BS EnglishEnglish, General knowledge, Verbal reasoning
DPT, BS-MLT and other semester-based health programmesVerbal ability, Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Using a SAT score instead of the CBT

Instead of the CBT, you can submit a valid SAT score: SAT I for non-engineering and non-computing programmes, or SAT II for engineering and computing. It takes the same 60% weight. College Board stopped offering SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) in 2021, so if you plan to apply to engineering or computing with a SAT score, ask Bahria’s admissions office which SAT result it accepts now. Use the SAT option in the calculator, which scores out of 1600.

MBBS and BDS applicants take NUMS MDCAT, not the BU CBT. NUMS MDCAT is out of 200 and is a separate test from the national PMDC MDCAT.

Bahria University Eligibility Criteria 2027 (Minimum Marks by Programme)

Bahria’s policy sets three baseline minimums: 60% in FSc Pre-Engineering for engineering, 60% in FSc Pre-Medical for medical sciences, and 50% in HSSC for everything else. Minimums for individual programmes, from Bahria’s own eligibility page:

ProgrammeMinimum eligibility
BSE, BCE (Software / Computer Engineering)60% in Pre-Engineering, or with Mathematics, Physics & Computer Studies
BEE (Electrical)60% in FSc Pre-Engineering / A-Level / relevant DAE; ICS with Physics & Maths accepted with remedial Chemistry
BS CS, BS IT, BS AI50% in HSSC (Pre-Engineering or Pre-Medical) with Mathematics; Pre-Medical students take 6 credit hours of Mathematics deficiency courses
BBA, BS Accounting & Finance, BS Supply Chain, BS Economics, BS Business Analytics50% in any discipline
BS Business & IT (Lahore)45% in HSSC / FSc / ICS / ICOM / A-Level
BS Psychology50% (45% at the Lahore campus)
LLB50% in Intermediate, plus 50% in the Law Admission Test (LAT)
BS Media Studies, BSS, BS English, BS Public Health50%
BS Maritime Business & Management (4 years)45% in any discipline
DPT60% in Pre-Medical / Health Sciences
BS-MLT, BS-Biotechnology, BS Nursing50% (Pre-Medical for MLT and Nursing); Nursing age limit 16–35
MBBS / BDS60% in FSc Pre-Medical; NUMS MDCAT minimum 55% (MBBS) or 50% (BDS)

O/A-Level applicants need 8 O-Level subjects and 3 A-Level subjects. Engineering applicants need A-Level Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry or Computing. You must show IBCC equivalence certificates at the interview.

If your HSSC Part-II result is still awaited, you can apply with your Part-I marks. Your admission stays provisional until you submit the final result, which is due within six weeks of the semester starting. A supplementary in any subject counts as failing, even if your overall percentage is enough.

Bahria University Reserved Seats and Quotas

Bahria has no bonus marks, but its Admissions Policy reserves a share of seats for these categories. Quota candidates must still pass the CBT (or submit an accepted test score) and meet the programme’s minimum eligibility:

QuotaSeats
Children of Overseas Pakistanis (undergraduate only)5%
Lawyers’ children (LLB only, Pakistan Bar Council rules)5%
Students from less developed regions2%
Students with disabilities2%
Sports (undergraduate only)2%
Balochistan1%

Sports quota candidates are ranked differently: 50% comes from their normal merit (CBT/SAT, HSSC and SSC) and 50% from a sports proficiency and trial assessment run by the campus.

Bahria Merit Impact: How Much Is Each Mark Worth?

The CBT carries 60% on a 100-mark scale, so each CBT mark is worth far more than a board-exam mark:

ImprovementChange in merit (undergraduate)
+1 mark in the BU CBT (out of 100)+0.60 points
+10 marks in HSSC (out of 1100)+0.27 points
+10 marks in SSC (out of 1100)+0.09 points

One extra CBT mark is worth more than 20 extra HSSC marks. With no negative marking, answering every question costs you nothing.

Bahria University Closing Merit: What Aggregate Do You Need?

Bahria does not publish one closing merit for the whole university. Each campus lists merit by discipline, as a rank order against its target intake, without marks. Computer Science, Software Engineering and the Islamabad campuses are usually the most competitive, while newer programmes and smaller campuses close lower.

For each programme you choose, you see only your own merit position. Your score also carries across all your choices: if merit drops for your first choice, candidates who ranked it second or third are offered seats in order of merit.

How to Improve Your Bahria University Merit

  • Put most of your preparation into the CBT. It carries 60% of your merit, which is more than SSC and HSSC combined.
  • Attempt every question. The CBT has no negative marking, so leaving a question blank cannot help you.
  • Prepare for your department’s sections. Engineering and computing tests include Physics and Mathematics; business and social sciences tests include General Knowledge instead.
  • Take more than one accepted test if you can. Bahria counts your best score.
  • List several programmes and campuses. The same merit score is ranked separately for each choice.

Common Bahria Merit Calculation Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using 10/40/50 for non-medical programmes. That split applies only to MBBS/BDS. Every other undergraduate programme uses 10% SSC + 30% HSSC + 60% test.
  • Leaving out SSC. SSC carries 10% of your Bahria merit, so it cannot be skipped.
  • Entering an NTS NAT score in place of the CBT. For undergraduate programmes, Bahria accepts its own CBT or a SAT score, and does not list NAT.
  • Dividing a SAT score by 100. Use the SAT option, which scores out of 1600.
  • Assuming a supplementary is fine. A supplementary in any subject counts as failing the qualifying exam and cancels your admission.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Bahria University merit formula?

For all undergraduate programmes it is 10% SSC, 30% HSSC and 60% BU Admission Test (CBT) or an accepted SAT score, set in clause 2.11.3 of Bahria’s Admissions Policy. MBBS and BDS use 10% SSC, 40% FSc and 50% NUMS MDCAT.

Is Bahria’s formula different for Computer Science or Engineering?

No. Every undergraduate programme uses the same 10-30-60 weightage. Programmes differ only in their minimum eligibility and in the CBT sections you sit.

How many marks is the Bahria CBT out of?

100. The test has 100 MCQs, 120 minutes and no negative marking. You need 33% to pass.

Is there negative marking in the Bahria entry test?

No. A wrong answer scores the same as a blank one, so attempt every question.

Does Bahria accept NTS NAT?

For undergraduate admission, Bahria’s policy accepts its own CBT or a SAT score (SAT I for non-engineering and non-computing, SAT II for engineering and computing). NAT is not listed.

How is the Bahria aggregate calculated?

Convert SSC, HSSC and your test result to percentages, multiply by 0.10, 0.30 and 0.60, and add them. For example, SSC 950/1100, HSSC 980/1100 and CBT 70/100 give 77.36%.

What is the Bahria MBBS/BDS merit formula?

10% SSC, 40% FSc (Pre-Medical, minimum 60%) and 50% NUMS MDCAT, following PM&DC regulations. You need at least 55% in NUMS MDCAT for MBBS and 50% for BDS.

Does Bahria give Hafiz-e-Quran bonus marks?

No. Bahria’s Admissions Policy has no bonus marks. It reserves seats instead, for example 5% for children of Overseas Pakistanis and 2% each for sports, disability and less developed regions.

Can I apply before my HSSC Part-II result?

Yes. Apply with your Part-I marks and you can be admitted provisionally. You must submit the final result within six weeks of the semester starting, and a supplementary in any subject cancels the admission.

What is the minimum eligibility for Bahria Engineering?

60% in FSc Pre-Engineering or equivalent. Software and Computer Engineering also accept Mathematics, Physics and Computer Studies at 60%.

Is this the official Bahria merit?

No. This is an independent estimator built from Bahria’s own Admissions Policy and Merit Criteria page. Your official merit position appears on Bahria’s admission portal.

Why is my merit different from the one Bahria published?

The usual causes are using the MBBS/BDS formula for another programme, leaving out SSC, entering a test on the wrong total, or rounding. Check the exact figures with your campus admissions office.

Equivalence and recognition

How this page was checked. The undergraduate formula (60% BU Admission Test or ETS score, 30% HSSC, 10% SSC), the 33% pass mark, the CBT pattern, eligibility baselines and quotas all come directly from Bahria University’s own Admissions Policy (Edition 2, in force from Spring 2022), read in September 2026. The same 10/30/60 split appears on Bahria’s current Merit Criteria page for its semester-based health programmes, which confirms the policy is still in use. That page is also the source of the MBBS/BDS formula (10/40/50 with NUMS MDCAT). Programme-level eligibility comes from Bahria’s live Academic Eligibility page. Of the other calculator pages checked, one matched this formula exactly; two showed different splits (10/40/50 and 50/50) that do not match Bahria’s own policy for non-medical programmes, which is why this page is built from Bahria’s documents rather than any tracker. The SAT II route is flagged because College Board discontinued SAT Subject Tests in 2021. This site is independent and is not affiliated with Bahria University.
